ABSTRACT

There are an increasing number of patients suffering from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in our country and overseas. After the outbreak, the state health administrative sections have updated steadily several editions of Diagnosis and Treatment of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia. According to the change of exposition of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment in these editions and the characteristics of cases in clinic, COVID-19 corresponds to pestilence category of TCM, which also based on the ancient literatures from the seasonal-febrile-disease subject of TCM. The disease contributes to pestilential pathogen caused by specifically regional climate characteristics of Wuhan city. It is important for COVID-19 patients to eliminate pathogens as soon as possible, which should apply defense-qi-nutrient-blood diagnosis to different courses of disease. The TCM therapy should be established according to the different organs where the virus lives and characters. In order to control the epidemic at an early date, it is necessary to consider the local conditions and use the combination of traditional Chinese and western medicine to treat COVID -19 patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the effects of a herb complex extract (HCE) prepared from Cornus officinalis Sieb. Et Zucc., Eriobotrya japonica Lindley, and olive leaves on immune response of mouse spleen NK cells in vitro and in vivo analysis. Methods: The activity of natural killer (NK) cells was measured in splenocytes and YAC-1 cells. Mice were immunosuppressed using cyclophosphamide (5 mg/kg body weight). Three different doses of HCE (200, 400, and 800 mg/kg body weight) and red ginseng extract (800 mg/kg body weight) which was used as standard immunomodulatory herb were administered orally for 4 weeks. The body weight, dietary, water intake, organs (liver, thymus, and spleen) weight, completed blood count, and cytokines (tumor necrosis factor alpha, interferon gamma, and interleukin-2) production was measured. Results: At the maximum concentration of HCE, the activity of NK cells was increased by 48.5%. HCE increased liver, spleen, and thymus weights without altering numbers of white blood cells, lymphocytes, and neutrophils in a cyclophosphamide-induced immunosuppression rat model. However, HCE recovered the inhibited cytokine expression; HCE (800 mg/kg) increased cytokines levels. The results indicate the immune enhancement potential of this HCE. Conclusion: The HCE enhances immunity by increasing NK cell activity, regulating cytokine levels, and maintaining spleen weight. Therefore, it may be used as a potential immunity enhancer.

ABSTRACT

Background: Previously, most studies evaluating nutritional status in Vietnam are based on the weight, height indexes or body mass index (BMI). Recently, Ha Huy Tue and his colleagues conducted a study to evaluate body composition in adults in both rural and urban\r\n', u'Objectives: To evaluate nutritional status and body composition and analyze the roleof BMI and percentage body fat (% BF) in determining the status of overweight and obesity\r\n', u'Subjects and method: A cross \u2013sectional study was carried out in 2.671 pupils (male/female: 50.6%/49.4%) aged 11-14 years old of 6 secondary schools in Hanam province Binh Luc district. BMI and %BF are the two indicators used for analyzing. \r\n', u'Results: The prevalence of subjects with BMI\ufffd?5th percentile was less than 1% for both males and females. Mean %BF ranged from 17.4-18.3% and from 13.9-20.2% for males and females, respectively. One unit of BMI corresponds to a large range of %BF. %BF has a goof sensitivity to detect high body fat in males; %BF can be a indicator to identify early overweight and obesity in pupils.\r\n', u'Conclusion: Proportion of overweight and obesity in 11-14 year-old schoolchildren of Binh Luc district, Ha Nam province is low. Therefore, obesity is not significant issue for the public health in the local. % BF can be used for the prevention of overweight, obesity in the community, especially the schoolchildren.\r\n', u'\r\n', u'\r\n', u'

ABSTRACT

22 patients with cancer (cervical cancer: 4, renal cancer: 6, esophageal cancer: 5, toungue cancer: 4 and throat cancer: 3) treated by the brachy therapy. The results have shown that good out come (73%), medium outcome (14%) and poor outcome (13%).There was no complications of both radiation or technique. The brachytherapy AGAT-VU1 had some advantages including the short duration of treatment course, automatics, control by program, saty, relibility.
